Just in time for #TransformationTuesday, let’s talk to our newest initiate into the Muscle-Up Club, Barry!

How long have you been a CrossFitter? I started in July 2014

Did you ever play sports? I played football in high school. I wasn’t very good. I kinda just filled a hole on the offensive line.

Got some cool (or uncool) hobbies you’d like to share? When I’m not working on a home project, I like to do some bass fishing.

What is your biggest achievement at CrossFit? I think I may have beat Ola in a Metcon once.

What do you feel that you still need to work on? Deadlifts. (see whiteboard)

Goals for the rest of this year? I would like to get stronger and focus on core lifts like deadlift, squat and bench press.

What’s your favorite WOD/lift/movement? Wall Balls, Kettlebells, Farmer’s Walk

How about your favorite food/snacks? Meat and Beer and Tiramisu.

What is the craziest workout outside of CF you have ever done? Battlefrog. Before CrossFit, I would have never attempted an OCR, let alone enjoy it and look forward to doing more. I’m already planning next year’s Spartan Trifecta and looking for teammates.

What’s your least favorite WOD/lift/movement? Squats (any and all kinds)

What skill have you been working on in 2015 the most? I spent a lot of time working on upper body exercises so I could do pullups, toes to bar, etc… I’m going to be spending more time working on hip mobility and leg strength.

What’s your favorite piece of workout “gear”? Supplements are my “gear” of choice. A good pre-workout always helps. You probably thought I was gonna say my sweet camo tights. They are a close second.

What would you say is your biggest improvement since starting CF? I couldn’t do a pushup or a pullup when I started. Gradually I was able to do the workouts at Rx weight, and now I try to do Rx+ when I can.

PR’s to mention? Goals Reached? Nutrition highlights? Since starting CrossFit, I’ve lost 30 lbs, increased my strength and lowered my body fat. I feel better and have more energy, both at home and work. I’ve met a lot of great people and made good friends. Most importantly, I’m more active with my family and spend more time with them.
